Prominent Cape Town plastic surgeon Dr Des Fernandes was a pioneer in this field. In the 1980's, he was one of the first to use Vitamin A in high enough doses for a genuine, measurable effect on the quality of the skin.
Dr Des Fernandes became interested in the mechanics of skin cancer and the skin following the untimely deaths of two young patients due to melanoma. Out of this, the Environ® range and company were born. He owns the business jointly with his sister, Val Carstens, who brings a wealth of business experience to the company in the role of CEO.
